Dillon Corkery Gerard-DHL wins at Mondello Park

Dillon Corkery has taken an impressive victory at the Mondello Series; going through the groups solo to win.

The Gerard-DHL man started in the scratch group on the Co Kildare motor racing track but broke clear of it.

He then caught and went through all of the groups ahead of him on the road. And while three riders from the combined A3-A4 group stayed with him, Corkery was far too strong at the finish.

There were repeated efforts from behind to get across to the leaders, but all came to nothing.

Those riders who managed to hold Corkery were: Djonyy Gomes (Scott Orwell), John Priest (Lucan RCR), Shane Foley (Unattached) and Joseph Dillon (Bray Wheelers).

Corkery took the win ahead of two veterans who are strong week in, week out; Priest and Foley.

Corkery had already won five races before last night; an impressive tally in his first year out of the juniors.

He has claimed wins in Rás Naomh Finian, Rás Luimni, the National Criterium Championships, the Foyle Three Day and the Silver Paul GP.

Interestingly, he has only been on the podium on two other occasions this season, meaning when he gets a chance at victory he generally coverts it.
