An aggressive and strong campaigner, Des Woods has powered to victory at the Danny Boy Road Race in Feeny, Co Derry, today.

Woods took a solo win in the A2-A3 race
after attacking on his own on the final lap and proving strong enough to seal
the victory in the Roe Valley Cycling Club promotion.

The Irish masters title winner on road
and in the cyclocross discipline won a handicapped race that saw the A3s given
an advantaged of two minutes on the A2s.

The two groups, in a race that was fully
signed up in advance, saw the two groups merged just into the second lap, of
five, in the 60 mile event.

However, while the race was
characterised from that point with plenty of aggression, it was not until the
final 12-mile lap that Woods hit out.

He attacked and when he found himself
out front solo he put the head down for the finish line, arriving with time to
spare.

Behind him the other placings were
settled in a group sprint; Tom McCabe (Unattached) in 2nd place and Stuart
McCaughey (Phoenix CC) rounding out the podium.

The A4 race came down to a drag race on
the incline up the finishing straight; Ciaran
McGuire of Harps CC proving best.

He was won out from runner-up Adam Boyd (VC Glendale) and David Garcia (Dunshaughlin CC) in 3rd place.
