The Des Hanlon Memorial is the big fixture on the agenda for the home road race scene this weekend, when most of the top riders in the country will descend on Co Carlow to fight out the honours in the main event, and the supporting races.

However, while Carlow RCC's fixture is one of the biggest and most prestigious road races of the year, other races are also down for decision this weekend.

They include the Killinchy Grand Prix, promoted in Co Down by Killinchy CC, as well as the Castlebar GP, promoted in Co Mayo, and the Emyvale CC youth races in Co Monaghan.

The Killinchy Grand Prix is the first race of the weekend and it gets underway quite early - from 8.30am on Saturday - when it rolls out from Killinchy Community Hall, Beechvale Road, Killinchy. The early start is designed to minimise the disruption cased by the racing to local residents.
