Deadly Dunlevy and McCrystal extend Irish gold rush in Rio

Just days after they were left crushed by finishing fifth in the women's 3k pursuit on the track, Irish paralympic pair Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have bounced back in stunning fashion, winning the tandem B time-trial in Pontal, Brazil. (Photo: (Photo:Paralympics Ireland)

Less than an hour after Eoghan Clifford won gold in the men’s C3 time-trial at the Paralympics in Brazil, Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have followed suit.

In what is comfortably the best ever day in the country’s Paralympic history, the pair smashed their rivals en route to tandem victory in 38:59:22.

They were left disappointed at missing out on a medal ride-off on the track last week when they were a quarter of a second of fourth but they have made up for that now in sensational fashion.

Clifford won gold in the C3 time-trial in the last hour while earlier in the evening Colin lynch took silver in his C2 time-trial.

McCrystal and Dunlevy - like Lynch and Clifford, will be aiming to add to the medal tally on Friday when they go in the road race - an event they have medaled in before.
