David Montgomery puts four minutes into top road riders to win Madigan GP, Lurgan

Turning his attention to the road, U23 cyclo-cross champion David Montgomery stole the show at the Madigan Grand Prix, soloing to a fine victory.

Better known for his off road skills, U23 national cyclo-cross champion and mountainbiker David Montgomery showed a clean pair of wheels to some of the top riders in the country yesterday when winning the Madigan Grand Prix in Lurgan.

In torrential rain, Montgomery attacked after just 20 minutes of the 90km race and proceeded to solo to victory, finishing a whopping three minutes and 48 seconds ahead of Conor Murphy (Caldwell Cycles) and third placed Mike Millar of Phoenix.

He also took the King of the HIlls title by cresting both of the day's climbs out front alone.
