David Conroy has taken his first ever
win on the roads with victory in the latest round of the Mondello Series in Co
Kildare.

The Donnybrook Landscaping-Scott man is
an off-road specialist, winning the elite Irish cyclocross crown this year.

He has also represented Ireland at the
cyclocross Worlds and Europeans but tonight showed he can also take road wins.

He broke clear in a two-man move with Luke
Kearney (South East Road Club) and beat him in a sprint finish.

John Priest (Lucan CRC) rounded out the podium from Mark Dowling (Unattached), Anthony Doyle (Strata 3-VeloRevolution) and Cian Keogh (Ciclotel Travel).

The first 40 minutes of racing saw the usual pattern of the A2, A3 and A4 groups coming together, with that large pack chased by the A1 scratch men.

From that scratch group a number of riders would break
clear and bridge up to those ahead.

There followed a period of attacks but despite the
aggression in the front bunch none of the moves succeeded.

Deep into the last lap Conroy and Kearney attacked and
once they got a small gap they grabbed their chance.

They pulled clear, ensuring they would fight it out for victory, with Conroy winning that battle.
