Having been ultra competitive from the start to end of the road race season, Darnell Moore has switched off-road with immediate success.
The U23 road race champion and elite cyclocross champion claimed the opening round of the Ulster Cyclocross League yesterday.
The fixture was run off in dry and mild conditions, making for a fast contest. And though Moore ran out the winner, Glenn Kinning was 2nd and pressing all the way meaning Moore could never relax out front.
Moore was hoping to be selected for the World Road Championships in Innsbruck.
But now that that has not come to pass, he has begun his cyclocross season and may ride on the road again as some racing is left.
There is also the matter of the national hill climb championships, which he won last year and will seek to defend the weekend after next.

Yesterday Moore's focus was on holding off Kinning, who was racing under his own Kinning Cycles livery.
And behind Kinning was Angus Fyffe; making for a 1-3 on the day for Caldwell Cycles Omagh.
Lee Harvey (Kinning Cycles) was best unplaced junior in the main event, with Jack Ferguson of Dromara the best U23.
Sean O'Tauthail (Bray Wheelers) took the M40 prize with VC Glendale’s Brendan Doherty the best M50.
In the women’s race, former national champion Fran Meehan was racing, from the front, in the colours of Kinning Cycles.
She claimed victory from Rachel Irvine (Caldwell Cycles Omagh) and Joanna Bula (Lakeland Wheelers).
The very strong junior rider Niamh McKiverigan of Powerhouse Sport took the junior prize in that women’s race.
The cyclocross B race was won by Paul Ferguson (North Down CC) from Raymond Rocks (Island Wheelers) and William Larmour (The Bike House).
