Des Woods has won the main event at the Danny Boy Road Races for the second time in two years; the former Masters national champion too strong for his rivals at the end of the A2-A3 race today.

Woods, riding for Newry Wheelers, won the race two years ago and today he got clear in a breakaway very early in the contest before going solo for victory.

The former national Masters road and cyclocross champion made it to the finish line in Feeny, Co Derry, with just seconds to spare over the chasers. However, the 55-year-old still had time for a victory celebration at the end of the Roe Valley Wheelers promotion in Feeny, Co Derry.

The Ards CC duo of Andrew Hedley and Stuart Millar had to be content with 2nd and 3rd today behind the flying Woods, with Gary Cranston (East Antrim Audi CC) in 4th and Aaron Quinn (Four Masters CC) taking 5th place.

The A4 race went the way of Ballymena Road club when Andrew Rainey's brute force on the uphill finish saw him pull out a gap of several lengths on those closest to him.

Rainey took the victory just ahead of Chris Henderson of the Roe Valley CC promoting club, with Scott Lewis (VC Glendale) in 3rd place.  Kieran Chappell (Bann Valley RC) was 4th and Dermot McCabe (Island Wheelers CC) placed 5th.
