Dan Martin made the favourites group at Criterium du Dauphine, staying on track for an assault on the overall this weekend.
The Irishman witness Chris Froome’s
crash while they happened across each other while checking out the TT course on
Wednesday.
Though he said he was left shaking at
what he saw and though the crash may have been fatal, he regrouped and got
through his own test doing a decent time.
He was in the bunch on Thursday and
yesterday finished in a 27-man group some 6:10 behind the breakaway.
The stage 229km from Saint-Vulbas
to Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne was won by Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-QuickStep)
He just beat Gregor Mühlberger (Bora-hansgrohe) in a tight sprint, with Alessandro De Marchi (CCC Team) 3rd two seconds back.

Wout Poels, now leading Team Ineos in
the absence of Froome, led home what was left of the peloton after a very hard
stage.

As the general classification men
finished in that group with Poels, there was no change at the top of the
standings.
Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) leads from
stage 2 winner and former yellow jersey Dylan Teuns (Bahrain Merida) by two
seconds.
Tejay van Garderen (EF Education First)
is 3rd some six seconds off the yellow jersey.
Dan Martin (UAE Team Emirates) finished
14th yesterday and remains 12th overall, 1:13 off Yates.
Saturday’s stage 7 takes the riders 133.5km from Saint-Genix-les-Villages to Pipay; three cat a climbs and the 19km HC ascent of Les Sept Laux to finish.
