Daire Feeley has taken his ninth win of the season with a solo victory in the Bobby Power Memorial in Carrick-on-Suir at the weekend.
On a tough undulating
course, the early breakaway was reduced to four after two laps and was well
established ahead of the chasing peloton.
Eventual winner Feeley
was in that move with his Strata 3-VeloRevolution team mate Riche Maes.
Also present were Liam
Curley (UC Monaco) and Conor Kissane (Killarney CC), making for a small escape
group with plenty of firepower.
With two men in the
move, the Strata 3-VeloRevolution pair played the numbers game, firing Maes up
the road first.
He got clear of the
breakaway on the third lap, leaving Curley and Kissane with no option but to
chase him or let the win ride away up the road.
They rode after him,
with Feeley playing team mate and not contributing to the workload in the
chase.
When Maes was
eventually reeled in with one lap remaining, Feeley launched himself off the
front and put the head down for the chequered flag.
And that was the way it
stayed to the finish; Feeley taking an impressive solo win with Maes taking 2nd
behind him from Curley and Maes.
Richie Meany (Westport
Covey Wheelers) proved best of the rest; taking 5th place from David Walshe
(Castlebar CC).
In the A3 Tommy Sheehan
race, Tom Shanahan (Limerick CC) took victory ahead of Patrick Galvin
(Killarney CC) and Mark McGarry (Dungarvan CC).
In the A4 Landy Cup
Evan Collins (Unattached), who has been on a charge of late, turned his recent run
of good form into victory. He led the way from Justinas Jakavonis (Galway Bay CC) and Tadhg Murray (Unattached).
