Daire Feeley goes long for impressive win at Sliabh Luachra Clasaicí

Daire Feeley has underlined his status as one of the very strongest riders on the home scene at present with another win today; this time going solo in the Sliabh Luachra Clasaicí.

The All human-VeloRevolution rider made the day’s main breakaway in Knocknagree, Co Cork, before attacking it and riding away with UCD Cycling Club’s Jason Kenny.

On the final lap of seven, Feeley managed to distance Kenny and rode to an impressive victory, with his UCD rival surviving for 2nd place and Cian Keogh (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) taking 3rd.

The main event was fought out over seven laps of a 15.7km circuit and on the second lap the winning 12-man move went clear; Conor Hennebry (Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo) and Richie  Barry (St Finbarr’s CC) especially active during that period of the race.

Once the lead group established a gap the attacks began up front, before Feeley and Kenny got clear in what would prove the winning attack with 2½ laps to go.

The A3 and A4 races went much the same way; the fields splitting up significantly and the races being won by solo attackers.

Liam Crowley of O’Leary Stone Kanturk won the A3 race having won the same event last year, as a junior, and also won the A3 race in Newcastle West last weekend.

Behind winner Crowley today, Paudie O’Sullivan of Limerick CC took 2nd place and Eoghan Cooke of Ounavarra CC rounded out the podium.

In the A4 race, Mark Pinfield (Blarney CC) got into a winning breakaway before attacking it and winning solo by about one minute. Mark O’Donovan, also of Blarney CC, was 2nd while David Culloty (Killarney CC) placed 3rd.
