Up and coming Irish junior international, Daire Feeley has taken an excellent win in the west today from Paddy Clarke (Liquidworx-Fitscience) at the Brian McNamara Memorial Race in Tuam, Co Galway.

The Roscommon youngster, a member of the Donamon Dynamos club, broke away with Clarke on the second last lap.

The duo worked well enough to hold off the chasing peloton, which was led in by veteran Padraig Marrey of Western Lakes CC.

It was Marrey's second trip to the podium this weekend having finished runner-up to Jason Prendergast (Liquidworx Fitscience) in the Tourmakeady Festival Race on Friday evening in Co Mayo.

Prendergast was 4th today, with team mate Mike Storan in 5th place.

The result in Tuam this afternoon meant outright victory for Clarke in what was the fifth and final round of the Connacht Criterium Summer Series.

The win for Feeley is the latest strong ride for him in what has been an amazing season for the teenager.

He has not only developed a very handy knack of getting into winning breakaways and taking victories all season, but also gained selection on the national team for the Junior Nations Cup on the Continent, the European Championships and the Junior Tour of Ireland.

While he began his winning run way back in March and is coming off a packed schedule of hard racing, he does not appear to be showing any signs of fatigue.

And he is now firmly in the mix for selection onto the Irish team for the World Championships in Spain in late September, though competition for those places is set to be intense.

Today's race was one hour and three laps of a 4.3 kilometre circuit.
