After the Irish road and track riders won plaudits for their performances at the OIympic Games, now its the turn of the MTB cyclists to don the green of Ireland, at the UCI World Championships in Andorra.
Cycling Ireland has named a 12-rider team - 10 men and two women - to take on the MTB short track and Olympic events as well as the downhill discipline. Indeed, the team is comprised mostly of downhill riders, which is no surprise considering their success of late.
Chris Dawson will take on both the short-track event on August 29th and the longer Olympic event on September 1st.
First-year junior and national elite MTB XC champion, Greta Lawless, will compete in the junior events while Caoimhe May will ride the U23 Olympic length and short-track events.
Callum Morris - who has won the national junior downhill title this year as well as the U21 Enduro title and finished top 10 in the recent European Downhill Championships - is also selected for Andorra. He will be joined by Ben Fitzsimon on the junior category.
In the elite downhill category, UCI World Cup winners Ronan Dunne and Oisin O’Callaghan are selected along with Henry Kerr, Jacob Dickson, Chris Cumming, Ross Ennis and Niall Clerkin.
