Cycling Ireland has published the final results for the
TTs at the National Youth Championships last month and has also apologised for
the three-week delay.
The championships were run in Gorey, Co Wexford, with a
packed schedule of racing, including the TTs, road races and criteriums for all
age groups.
Unfortunately, problems emerged with the TT results and
the organisers and Cycling Ireland have in recent weeks gone through all of the
information available in an effort to formulate the final results.
It appears on the day that some riders did not start the
TTs in the pre-race order, which caused confusion with times. Some riders were
credited with the wrong times for that reason, with some other issues further
complicating the results.
Immediately after the event results for all races were
published. But it soon became clear the TT results were problematic. The
results were withdrawn and an effort began to correct them. That process is now
complete and the results are available at the link below.
“We would like to apologise for this delay in finalising
the results, which has caused concern for many riders and parents/guardians
involved,” Cycling Ireland said in a statement.
“But due to a number of issues during the time trial,
that were outside the control of the organisers, Gorey Cycling Club, we have
had to spend time analysing the various pieces of information we had available
to us.
“(This has) included time keepers’ sheets, photographs
with time stamps, etc to establish what we now believe to be the correct and
final result.”
The national governing body added there were “learnings”
to be taken from the championships. It would work with its youth commission to
ensure a repeat will not happen in the future. Cycling Ireland added a TT medal
ceremony would take place at a later date and it would be in touch with the
medal winners.
