With just one week to go before the first national titles of 2013 will be fought for, Cuchulainn CC has announced it has secured financial backing for its hosting of the National Cyclocross Championships.
The events will be backed by Dublin company Science in Sport Ireland, which specialises in sports nutrition and is a major name in the cycling sector – www.scienceinsport.ie
The event is now called the ‘Science In Sport National Championships’.
The races will unfold next Sunday, January 13th, on an undulating course at Muirhevnamor Park, Dundalk. Cuchulainn CC tell us the up and down course holds a good test in store, with some technical woodland to be negotiated as well as some fast tarmac sections.
There will be male and female medals up for grabs for elites, vets and juniors.
The club also intends putting on a good event around the Nationals, with an expo planned on site as well as some grass track racing, which sounds like a great idea.
There will also be change rooms, showers and car parking available at the course.
The Muirhevnamor park venue is 45 acres and has been completely given over to the event next Sunday. The route was course passed last weekend by race chief commissaire Paul Watson.
The club tell us Johnny McCabe has designed the course to be exciting, and challenging and to make greatest use of the existing terrain. A double pit will permit the riders to access service twice each lap.
Muirhevnamor is easily found off Dundalk’s main ring road, only an hour from both Dublin and Belfast and will be sign posted on the day.
Entry will close on Wednesday at 10am for both the support event and the National Championships. Gridding will be posted later that day.
