Erin Creighton emerged as the star of the National Junior Track Championships in Belfast at the weekend, winning four national titles in one day.
And in the men’s title races Oisin Ferrity (Island Wheelers) also enjoyed a dream day out as he took two of the four gold medals on offer, as well as silver in the other two events.
McConvey Cycles rider Creighton has very much been on the up this season, more than holding her own against the elites in tough races. She also won the John Haldane Memorial earlier in the year and has represented Ireland at Gent Wevelgem.
Creighton cemented her reputation as a rapidly emerging talent with victory in the 500m TT, 2km pursuit, scratch race and sprint in Orangefield Velodrome, Belfast, at the weekend.
The 18-year-old took the 2km pursuit in a time of 2.57.83 from silver medal winner Aoife O’Brien (Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar), who rode 3.07.91. Shauna Finn of Newcastle West Cycling Club claimed bronze, though her time was not available at the time of writing.
In the 500m TT Creighton took gold in a time of 41.531, with Aoife O`Brien taking silver in 42.997 and Emma Smith (Navan Road Club) taking bronze in a time of 44.007.
The scratch race went to Creighton from O’Brien, with the same 1-2 again in the sprint, with Smith once again taking the bronze medal in that event.
In the junior men’s races, Ferrity claimed two golds while Patrick O’Loughlin (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) and Curtis Neill (Carn Wheelers) claimed a title each.
Neill was best in the 3km individual pursuit, with a time of 3.51.62, ahead of Ferrity (3.56.31) and O’Loughlin (4.16.53). In the 1km TT, Ferrity won the title in a time of 1.14.323 with O’Loughlin taking silver in 1.16.529 and Neill winning bronze in 1.16.876.
The scratch race saw O’Loughlin take the title from Ferrity and Luke Bernie (Navan Road Club). In the sprint, Ferrity won gold from O’Loughlin and Andrew Kelly (Moynalty CC).
