Dillon Corkery (Verge Sports-Pi Cycles) took victory yesterday in the men's race at De Ronde van Cork New Year's Cyclocross at the Cork Show grounds while Grace Young (All human-VeloRevolution) won the women's race.

Corkery came out on top after leading from start to finish in the five-lap race, run off in muddy conditions. The French-based road international is coming good just ahead of the National Cyclocross Championships and given his class as a road rider it will be interesting to see if he can get into the mix at the championships next weekend.

He took victory yesterday, by almost one minute, from Richard Maes (All human-VeloRevolution), with Richard Barry (St Finbarr's CC) rounding out the podium.

In the women's race, Young bounced back from a bout of illness to win, just 24 hours after she finished 3rd in the final round of the National Cyclocross Series in Portadown.

As was the case with Corkery in the men's race, Young got out front on her own on the opening lap and never looked back. In the end, her winning margin over Michelle Geoghegan (Isorex) was 48 seconds with former national road race champion Fiona Meade (Blarney Cycling Club) completing the podium.
