Conor Murphy, Greta Lawless reach for the afterburners in Leinster

Conor Murphy (Caldwell Cycles) and Greta Lawless (Team WORC) may still be in the junior ranks but there are among the best cyclocross riders in the country at elite level and both proved victorious today at the Leinster Cyclocross Series.

Both riders were clear winners today in the men's and women's races, getting clear from the early stages and then stretching out their advantage all the way to the line, even some form riders were chasing them.

Murphy took victory in the men's event - after eight laps and 57 minutes of racing - by almost two minutes from Tadhg Killeen, U23 rider with Kilcullen Cycling Club Murphy Geospacial who has been on a winning run this season.

Timothy O'Regan (All human-VeloRevolution Racing Team) was 3rd, just over three minutes down on the winner, with Pierce O'Leary (Lucan Cycling Road Club) placing 4th and Sean Lundy (UCD Cycling Club) rounding out the top five on the day.

In the women's race, Lawless - who took 10th in the junior race at the recent UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Dublin - was, like Murphy, out on her own today.

On the first of six laps she put around 20 seconds into her nearest challenger on the day, Doireann Killeen (Kilcullen Cycling Club Murphy Geospacial), with Masters rider and Olympian Jenny Mc Cauley (Bray Wheelers) in the hunt for 3rd.

Once Lawless got clear she continued to press on out front, claiming victory by almost three minutes from Killeen, with McCauley rounding out the podium 4:30 down on the winner.

Leah Mc Carthy (K Capital Rocky Mountain) was 4th with Fiona Lally (EPIC MTB Expert Cycles) 5th and Aishling O'Connor (Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club) in 6th.
