Conor Murphy of Caldwell Cycles proved one of the most impressive young Irish riders on the international cyclocross scene during the winter and now the 17-year-old has taken his first big win as a junior road cyclist.

The silver medalist from last year's European Youth Olympic Games, Murphy made his strength show today on the opening stage of the Gorey Three Day to take a solo victory, going into yellow in the process, ahead of the other breakaway riders.

And with the second stage of the race, tomorrow morning, a race against the watch, the Co Louth teenager should be in his element, and looking to extend his lead after a really strong finale in Co Wexford today.
