Conor McKenna has taken his first win of the season at
the latest round of the Mondello Series in Co Kildare.

The UCD Cycling Club man was best of a four-man breakaway
to win after the groups had come together with about a half an hour still to
race.

McKenna adds his victory in the Usher Irish Road Club
promotion to his 3rd place finish in last month’s Peter Bidwell.

After heavy rain hit the turnout in the last round, the
better weather on Tuesday night saw bigger numbers take to the start line.

When the groups came together the racing was
characterised by plenty of aggression, though repeated attacks were all
neutralised in the first hour of racing.

However, a decisive move finally went late with eventual
winner McKenna present.

With him was Gorey Three Day TT winner Jay Earls (South
East Road Club), James Davenport (Strata 3-VeloRevolution) and veteran rider
Ronan McDonnell (Dublin Wheelers).

They pulled out a winning gap and on the line it was the
A1 men who came out best; McKenna taking it from Davenport.

However, McDonnell showed an impressive kick to push
Davenport close on the line. And completing the four-man move was Earls.

Behind the four leaders, Davenport’s team mate Anthony
Doyle took the bunch sprint for 5th place from Emyvale’s Dave Reilly.

Irish elite cyclocross champion David Conroy (Scott
Donnybrook) took the A2 prize while
Kildare CC’s Fergus Whelan was top A3.

Joe Burke of Naas CC bagged the A4 prize while Ryan O’Hagan of Lucan CRC was top junior on the night.
