Conor Hennebry has extended his winning run, and his lead in the National Road Series, with victory at the Laragh Classic today.

He bossed the action on the testing finish where he was up against some of the strongest riders on the domestic scene this year.

The Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo rider has been battling for the top A1 rider spot this season with Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport) and Charlie Prendergast (Castlebar CC) and those two were also to the fore today.

That trio was joined at the front of the race by one of the breakthrough young riders of 2019; Liam Curley of Strata 3-Velorevolution.

Prendergast and Watson were among the early aggressors along with Cian Keogh (Ciclotel Travel) while Dillon Corkey (Bioracer-DHL-FR Services) also busied himself off the front early in the contest.

The most promising move, and the one that looked like it would prove the winning of the race, was a three-man group featuring Keogh, Prendergast and Watson.

They pressed clear, climbing well and working together, and were still leading when they hit the Wicklow Gap as the race neared an end.

However, Hennebry and Curley got across to the leaders, after Prendergast and Watson had proved strongest of the three long-time leaders.

Curley and Hennebry caught the two leaders with about 6km remaining.

Though they stayed together for most of the rest of the race, Hennebry lit up up with an attack with about 1km to go and held on to win.

Watson, who has had a fantastic year, had to be content with 2nd place today, with Curley taking a very strong 3rd and Prendergast coming home in 4th place.

Hennebry's team mate, and the leader of the series earlier in the campaign, James Curry came through strong for 5th place.

Junior rider Will Ryan (Vitus-Chill-NRPT) took an excellent 6th place against the elites on a very hard course.
