In a repeat of their ride from 12 months ago, the Dutch squad Team NWVG has taken the spoils in the first event of the VisitNenagh classic weekend in Co Tipperary.
The visitors blasted around the 28km course in a time of 35mins 43secs. That was some 2:35 faster than the best of the rest; the Connacht men’s line-up.
Rounding out the podium was the Sundrive Track Team, 40 seconds down on Connacht.
In the women’s event, just two teams lined out with Team ONIT from Wales proving too fast for the Connacht women’s team.
The Welsh clocked a time of 44mins 45secs, 1:30 ahead of Connacht.

The riders competed on a course from The Five Alley outside Nenagh to Birdhill and back again.

Ten teams lined out in the men’s event on a dry and sunny day but where the teams had to contend with a significant crosswind.
Today’s victory for NWVG is the third time in a row they have taken the event, clocking a course record on the way to victory this time around.

The team test is the traditional curtain raiser for the VisitNenagh road race classic which takes place tomorrow, Sunday.
It is the latest round of the National Road Series and has quickly become one of the most prestigious events on the calendar despite it being so new to the domestic scene.
There are also a number of support events down for decision on the roads tomorrow.
