Irish rider Conn McDunphy has been taking in some early racing in Spain and yesterday the former EvoPro Racing rider took his first podium finish of the new season in a race featuring 130 riders.
It was his second outing of the new campaign, and his second result, suggesting he has wintered well and is on course for a strong run of results at home this year.
The 26-year-old, and former elite national TT champion, took 3rd place yesterday from a breakaway that finished almost one minute clear in Cursa Social Yaris Route-Verges, an 85km race in the Girona region.
McDunphy, who was racing in the colours of his Co Dublin club Lucan CRC, came to the line with American Maximus Anderson (Kelly Benefit Strategies) and Canada's Eric Inkster (Bialini Gomola CCN). Anderson took the victory from Inkster, with McDunphy 3rd, after the three leaders finished 56 seconds up on a nine-rider chasing group.
Ireland's McDunphy was also in action Social La Bescanonina last week and took 7th in the 90km race after finishing in a group of 35 riders sprinting for victory.
