Collins and O'Donovan lead the way at Munster Cyclocross Champs

Fresh from representing Ireland at the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Dublin last weekend, Michael Collins (Newcastle West CC) and Aoife O'Donovan (Dungarvan CC) were back in action today in Limerick, and winning.

First-year U23 rider Collins claimed the elite men's race at the Munster Cyclocross Championships, with O'Donovan leading the way in the women's race and taking the junior title.

Collins, who won a great stage of the Junior Tour of Ireland this year, led the way from eracing international Richard Barry (St Finbarr's CC), with Shane Woulfe of the promoting club, Greenmount Cycling Academy, taking the bronze medal.

In the women's race, first-year junior O’Donovan got the better of Lisa Staplebroek (Unattached Munster) after a right finish, with O'Donovan taking the junior title and Staplebroek winning the senior title. Ami Flavin (Dungarvan CC) took junior silver.

Hugh Og Mulherne (Verge Sport Pi Cycles) took the junior men's race from Diarmuid Collins (Newcastlewest CC) and Ciaran O'Sullivan (Greenmount CA).

Marcus Flavin (Dungarvan CC) was crowned Masters 40 champion, with Joe Donworth (Greenmount CA) taking silver and Alan Lyons (Dungarvan CC) winning bronze.
