Michael Collins, the 17-year-old junior with Newcastle West CC, has extended his very strong run in the second half of the season with victory today at the Munster TT Championships in Co Limerick.

Over a 19.3km course, the junior rider was best in the combined junior and senior field to lift the men's provincial title on the day.

His victory in the Munster title race follows his stage 3 victory in the Junior Tour of Ireland as well his stage win and overall victory at the Charleville Two Day two weeks ago.

Today, Collins went around the course in a time of 25:37, which was 58 seconds faster than silver medal winner Ross Lee (Greenmount Cycling Academy). Derek Cullen of Black House Racing claimed the bronze medal, some 1:08 down on the winner.

In the women's race, the Munster crown was won by Margie O'Connor (West Clare CC) in a time of 31:49, with Sally Ann Lynch (Unattached) claiming the silver medal at 2:22.

The U16 boys race was won by John O'Mahony in a time of 29:28, some 35 seconds up on James Logue in 2nd place and 52 seconds clear of Diarmuid Collins who claimed bronze.
