Eoin Clifford has been crowned 2024 men's Munster road race champion after taking his chance in Co Cork today at the end of just over 100km of racing.

The Dan Morrissey-Primór by Pissei rider didn't have it easy as he held off Liam Crowley of UCD Cycling Club, one of the break-out riders of the season who represented Ireland on Rás Tailteann.

However, there was no need for a photo finish camera on the line as Clifford - a 22-year-old who has raced in Belgium in recent weeks - won it by several lengths from Crowley. Junior rider Willem O'Connor (JEGG-DJR Academy) took 3rd place.

The top three finished in a lead group and duked it out for the medals after six laps of a 17km lumpy circuit in Whitechurch; the provincial championships promoted today by Blarney Cycling Club.

More to come shortly.
