Marcus Christie (Cycling Club Isle of Man) and Aine Doherty (VC Glendale) were fastest man and woman on the night at the Ulster 10 Mile TT Championships. But the big winners were also Cycling Ulster and promoting club Ballymena Road Club.
In a season when races being cancelled, and lower numbers signing on to compete, have been a near constant theme for Irish cycling, these championships, on a midweek night, drew 72 entrants.
Christie clocked a time of 18:29 on the Frosses course in Ballymena, winning the men's title by 12 seconds from Ian Inglis (Kinning Cycles), with Curtis Neill (Lyon Sprint Evolution) taking the bronze medal, 50 seconds down on the winner.
Though teenager Doherty was the only female junior rider to compete, she was faster than any of the other women on the night; the 18-year-old stopping the clock at 23:04. Ryan Lundy (Performance SBR) was fastest male junior, in a time of 21:23.
Karen Hull (Phoenix CC) was fastest female Masters 40 rider, clocking a time of 24:25, some 1:38 up on Pamela Ayre of host club Ballymena Road Club.
Erwin McKee (Banbridge CC) was best Masters 40 male rider, with 20:24, proving 15 seconds quicker than Steven McAllister (AHC Racing). Gary Cranston (AHC Racing) was 3rd in a time of 20:42.
