Chris
Richardson has taken a very strong win at the Grouchos GP after the riders
experienced a bit more drama than they bargained for.
The racing came
upon a funeral cortege at one point; unfortunate for all involved but an
incident that sometimes cannot be helped when racing on public roads.
That forced a
halt to be drawn to the racing for a period. But when the action got going
again it was Richardson who led the way in Co Armagh.
The Bikehouse
man had been in a six-man escape group for much of the race before the action
was stopped for a while.
When the event was
stopped and recommenced the breakaway was still clear with one lap remaining.

However, Richardson
attacked the breakaway shortly after the restart and managed to forge clear
solo, holding on all the way to the final climb.

As the
breakaway he had been with was caught, Richardson continued to plough on alone
up the hill at Richhill and survived for a very strong victory.
Just behind
him, the race was intact as it began the final climb, though plenty of gaps
opened in the final surge to the line behind the winner.
Andy McCullough
arrived at the finish after the climb in very strong shape to take the runner-up spot for Killinchy
CC.
And rounding out the podium for the Grouchos GP 2019 was Joe Henry of Velo Café Magasin.
