Charlie
Prendergast has continued his dream season; the Castlebar Cycling Club man
winning in Co Mayo today.
He was best in
the Belmullet GP having been part of a small scratch group that went through
the limit riders.
At the finish
Prendergast saw off Cillian Murphy of Galway Bay CC to take the victory.
Just behind them
came Darragh McCarter (Donegal
Bay CC) in 3rd, with Galway Bay man
Eoghan McArdle Ruane last of the four-man breakaway.
The 95km
handicapped race was run off over three laps of a circuit based around
Belmullet.

While the A3
limit group had seven minutes, they were caught on the final lap by those
behind.

Prendergast,
McCarter, McArdle and Murphy broke clear of the scratch group just before the
catch was made.
They were first
onto the group ahead and went through them; riding clear to form the winning
breakaway.
While they rode
well for a period after breaking clear at the front of the race, cat and mouse
kicked in about 4km out.
However, none of the attacks from among the four-man breakaway stuck and it came down to a sprint which Prendergast won, his ninth victory of the season.
The A4 race in the Belmullet Cycling Club promotion was
won by Davoren Fallon (DCU Cycling Club).
He took that victory ahead of two local riders; Barry
Kivlehan Ballina CC 2nd and Francis Toher (Cunga CC) in 3rd place.
