Irish junior international Patrick Casey (Anexo Group Race Team) is coming to the end of the 2023 season clearly still in very good form as he has broken the Irish junior 25 mile TT record, subject to ratification.

Casey, who was on the Irish European Youth Olympics as an U16 last year and was also on the national team for Kerry Group Rás Mumhan this year, has set a new Irish marker for the distance for the first time since 2009, when Marcus Christie recorded a time of 50:43.

On Saturday, Casey rode the RTTC 25 Mile TT Championships in Forfar, Angus, Scotland, and took the win, though only two male juniors - and 22 female juniors - rode the event; the male start list very small perhaps because the Junior Tour of Wales was also being held.

Casey (17), who was 3rd in the TT at the National Road Championships in June and was 2nd overall in the Penn Ar Bed-Pays d'Iroise UCI-ranked junior stage race in France back in April, clocked a time of 49:15 in Saturday's TT, some 1:28 quicker than Christie's Irish junior record set in 2009.

The record has been broken now in the first season that juniors are not on restricted gears. However, this is only the second junior record broken since the move to unrestricted gears, with Aine Doherty (VC Glendale) breaking the 10 mile TT record last month with a time of 22:11.
