Just as he did 12 months ago on the same stage, Blarney CC's Kieran Crean has won the time-trial in this morning's second leg of the O’Leary Stone Kanturk Three Day.

Crean set a cracking time of 10:44 for the eight kilometre test and he holds a five second lead over Eddie Dunbar (O'Leary's Stone Kanturk CC) after this morning’s test and yesterday’s bunch finish 90km opener.

The man who won that stage, veteran Martin O’Loughlin was third this morning in a time of 10:59.

It all sets things up nicely for this afternoon’s third stage, which is a fast and flat trek starting and finishing in Banteer.

A bunch sprint is the most likely outcome, given how flat the route is. But last year a group of a dozen or so did manage to clip away and take a handful of seconds on the speeding bunch behind.

Ryan O'Donovan (Cork County CC) was the man who won the stage.

However, with Blarney having a superior numerical advantage to anyone else in the race this time out and with their man Crean in the jersey, they will be very keen to avoid a reappear of last year when he just about lost the overall win on the final day.
