Stefan Bissegger of EF Education-Easypost won the stage 3 TT at UAE Tour today, seeing off world champion Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) by seven seconds over the flat 9km course.
Tom Dumoulin (Jumbo-Visma) was 3rd at 14 second with Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) 4th at 18 seconds and team mate João Almeida placing 5th at 22 seconds. Another of the GC contenders, Adam Yates of Ineos Grenadiers, finished in 12th at 29 seconds.
Race leader and stage 1 winner Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Fenix) was one of the surprises of the day; the young Belgian putting up a really spirited TT to claim 10th place, some 28 seconds down.
Ireland's Ryan Mullen and Sam Bennett, both of Bora-hansgroge, took a back seat today with a day off of sorts; finishing 40th and 105th at 45 seconds and 1:18 respectively.
The race now moves into hiller terrain on the summit finish to Jebel Jais tomorrow, though the queen stage - finishing atop - Jebel Hafeet is not tackled until Saturday. Between those two GC showdown stages Bennett should get another shot at two bunch sprints on Thursday and Friday.
