Mia Griffin (Roland) has enjoyed one of the biggest days in her career, taking her first pro victory with a fantastic finishing effort on the third stage of Tour El Salvador.
Now racing back at World Tour level, for Swiss team Roland, Griffin took no chances at the finish into San Miguel, taking up her final kick at the front of the bunch very early and opening a big gap on her rivals with her initial kick.
And though she still had a long way to go to the finish line, she showed her class in holding on; a combination of speed and power keeping her ahead all the way to the line.
Though Griffin won two stages and the overall at Rás na mBan last year, and had already won two stages at the Irish stage race in 2023, today's victory was her first as a pro rider and her first in a UCI-ranked stage race.
She topped the podium today, after 62.7km stage, from team mates Laura Tomasi and Arianna Fidanza, who ride for Spanish ProConti team, Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi.
Griffin has told stickybottle of late she had put in a very big winter, focused on building her engine in a bid to become more versatile as a rider, though also looking to maintain the finishing kick she has always had.
She showed her form before this busy racing trip to El Salvador when she rode Gent Wevelgem last weekend with a strong breakaway ride. And though she faced a long haul flight and time zone difference in the quick turnaround for racing in El Salvador, she clearly overcome those obstacles to take a fantastic win today.
More to come.
