Wout van Aert has confirmed he will travel to Ireland next month to ride the Dublin round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup. The Belgian star's participation is a major boost for the fixture, which will be the first time Ireland has ever hosted top tier cyclocross racing.

He will ride the Antwerp round of the World Cup on December 4th before making Dublin his next World Cup outing on December 12th. The Dunlin round was among seven World Cup or Superprestigue races included in his programme published today by his team Jumbo Visma.

Van Aert is the biggest draw in cyclocross, especially after his dominant performances at the Tour de France over the last two years, confirmation he will ride in Dublin should help ticket sales.

Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) is said to command appearance money of around €8,000 for major cyclocross events with Mathieu Van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) reported to command a fee up to €15,000 and Van Aert up to €20,000 as he is said to sell the most tickets.

Some of the biggest cyclocross fixtures in Europe have sold more 20,000 tickets – before the pandemic – and it will be interesting to see how popular the Dublin round is, tickets for which are on sale and cost €15.
