Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost) already has a victory to his name this season after claiming the prologue TT at the Santos Tour Down Under. However, the Italian rider suffered cramped today in the finale of stage 2 and lost his race leader's jersey and being dropped from the peloton.

He was forced to a stop on the road with just over 11km to go and banged his thigh in frustration. When the TV camera motorbike stopped to film what was happening, Bettiol angrily waved it away before flinging his bidon at the TV moto. Up the road, a strongman's breakaway had pulled clear with about 20km to go and Rohan Dennis (Jumbo Visma) made his move early in the final sprint to win the 154.8km stage from Brighton to Victor Harbor and take the race lead.
