Sam Bennett’s spell in the yellow jersey and the two-day Critérium International may have come to an end in Saturday afternoon’s time trial but the Irishman is still right in the mix.
France’s big Grand Tour hopeful Thibaut Pinot but in an excellent ride to the win the 7km TT and nudge Bennett out of the yellow jersey he had taken when he won the morning 90km road stage in Porto Vecchio, Corsica, where the race is based.
Pinot (FDJ) blasted around the course in a time of 9mins 11secs to take the stage by two seconds from compatriot Jerome Coppel (IAM Cycling ).

A third Frenchman, Alexandre Geniez (FDJ) was 3rd, some three seconds off the time set by his victorious team mate.
And while that meant Bennett was out of the yellow jersey – have won a bunch sprint this morning – he still put in an excellent ride against the clock with the yellow jersey on his shoulders.
He finished in 15th place, some 22 seconds down in Pinot. And he remains in the top 10 overall, filling 9th place just 16 seconds down the stage winner and new race leader.

Bennett is also equal on points with Pinot and will wear the green jersey in the final 171km stage tomorrow, where he will once again look to get a clear run at the line and added to his victory of today.
