Ben Walsh has been the junior rider of the season on Irish roads and now he has claimed the Irish junior TT crown. The NRPT-Titan Containers teenager won the title last year. And since then he has also claimed the Junior Tour of Ireland; taking the opening stage and leading all the way to the finish.
Ben Walsh wins National TT Championships
Having won the Irish junior TT title last year, Ben Walsh's career has taken off. And now he has defended his Irish junior crown against the watch.
He was always going to have his work cut out for him in Maghera, Co Derry, as he faced Xeno Young.
The latter has taken silver medals in the individual pursuit at the World and European track championships of late.
And while the road is not his favoured domain, Xeno Young's ability against the clock is without question.
It meant Ben Walsh had to be on his toes today. But his shoulders carried that pressure and his engine did the rest.
For the 20.5 mile course he clocked a time of 44mins 27secs. That was a not insignificant 23 seconds ahead of Young in the silver medal position.
And back in 3rd place was another man of the season; Walsh's team mate Luke Smith.
He has been flying in road races of late, taking win after win. And today he switched his ability and clear form into TT mode to take the bronze medal.
Young Smith put in a super ride and only missed the silver by one second.
