Arnaud De Lie wins on one leg after finishing straight mishap | Video

The legend of young Belgian sprinter Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Dstny) continues to grow after he took his latest victory today despite only being able to use one leg in the final part of his sprint.

Once he made his move in the finishing sprint at Lotto Famenne Ardenne Classic (1.1) he opened a huge gap on his rivals. However, he then pulled his right foot out of the pedal, after a shoe malfunction, but continued his sprint using his left leg only.

He managed eight pedal revolutions - and even lunged at the finish line, almost crashing - with only his left foot in the pedals. That lunge threw him completely off balance and he very nearly crashed into the barriers to his right - not the only scary moment in the race as a driver did a U-turn in the road at one point as the bunch approached (see video below).

However, the sheer strength of De Lie's finishing sprint - on the hoods, slightly uphill - saw him open a yawning gap on the other fast men, including Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who has just won three stages and the points classification at La Vuelta.

And that power in De Lie's initial kick for the line - and the huge gap that opened - ensured he had a big enough advantage to hold on to win with a one-legged sprint; the 10th victory of the season for the 21-year-old.
