Sean Lacey has won the final stage of the Ballinrobe Two-Day this afternoon, Sunday, as Colm Cassidy retained the race leader’s yellow jersey.

It was a brilliant weekend for the Aquablue team, of which Lacey and Cassidy are key members, as they won all three stages and the overall.

Cassidy won yesterday’s opening road stage after going clear of the five-man break in the final kilometres and holding on solo to the finish.

Though he only held a six-second lead starting today’s time-trial he extended it to almost a minute with a typically swashbuckling performance against the clock.

He started the third and final stage today with a minute to his nearest challenger, Mark Perry (All Terrain Cycles), so it was very much advantage Cassidy and Aquablue.

Teammate Lacey took off up the road today with Daire Feeley (iTap) after around 60 kilometre, though only Feeley posed a threat overall after Lacey lost nine minutes yesterday because of a crash.

The Tralee man would drop Feeley coming in the road though, and he held on to the finish by himself for an absolutely superb win.

His margin at the line was a meagre five seconds from the dogged Feeley and 17 seconds on the bunch.

Lacey also won the points competition while Sean Yelverton (Mego Racing Team) claimed the polka dot jersey.

David Brody (iTap) and Aichlinn O’Reilly (Westport Covey Wheelers) were the A2 and A3 winners.
