With the new pro racing season in its first weeks, Aqua Blue Sport has already shown its aggression and form. And now it has taken its first podium finish of the 2018 campaign. Above, Ed Clancy won the stage.
Aqua Blue Sport has taken its first podium finish of the new season. Lasse Norman Hansen finished 3rd in the prologue TT that got the Herald Sun Tour underway earlier today.
The stage was won by Ed Clancy (JLT-Condor), by one second from Mads Pedersen (Trek-SegaFredo).
It was Hansen’s second result in days. He went on the attack at the Cadel Evans Great Open Road Race last Sunday.
And while the race-long breakaway was recaptured he took the climbers’ classification.
The winner of today’s 1.6km TT in Melbourne, Ed Clancy, is a three-time Olympic track champion.
However, his win in the test was his first ever pro victory on the road.
Next best of the Aqua Blue Sport men today was Shane Archbold. He claimed 15th place at 6 seconds.
One of the team’s new signings, Casper Pedersen, was 30th at eight seconds.
The Herald Sun Tour continues with four more stages until Sunday. There are no Irish riders in the race.
The Irish men of Aqua Blue Sport – Matt Brammeier, Eddie Dunbar and Conor Dunne – are not part of the team’s current racing trip in Australia.
