Orwell Wheeler Anthony Mulholland pounced
with a strong final lap attack to clinch victory at the Mondello Series in Co
Kildare this evening.

With the road surface, and the riders, soaked after an early downpour, Mulholland left his move late but he had the legs to pull it off.

He came home about 10 lengths clear of
the chasing group that hunted him down all the way to the line.

Behind him Bryan
Geary (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) was best of the rest for 2nd place on the
night.

He was followed
by Cian May (Lucan
CRC) and Paul O'Reilly (Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo).

A torrential downpour
just before the race began made for some nervous cycling on greasy corners.

The riders were
all soaked through after the opening lap, with the groups coming together after
about 30 minutes of racing.

From that point
on, there was no shortage of riders looking to get up the road, though all of
those moves were neutralised.

However, towards
the end of the contest Mulholland attacked just as the bunch stalled going into
the first corner of the final lap.

His surge forward
combined with some hesitation behind to ensure he got a very decent gap.

In the chasing
bunch a last lap crash disrupted the chase a little, though Mulholland was already
hurtling towards the final line at that stage.

He managed to keep the power down all the way to take his first win of the season.
