Angus Fyffe has taken his first win of the season at the Donegal Bay Kermesse this afternoon, Saturday.

The Omagh Wheelers man, who has been in great form in recent months and is one of a number of emerging young athletes in the U23 category, was first home in Mountcharles just ahead of fellow breakaway man Conor McIlwaine (AAA Cycling)

Ryan Reilly, the Derry teenager on a racing trip home from France where he rides with AC Bisontine, rounded out the podium.

He came in solo just a handful of seconds behind the winner and runner-up.

It was a good ride by Reilly after a very heavy fall on the finishing straight of the VisitNenagh.ie Classic last weekend when he hit a parked motorbike he was not expecting to find in his path in the sprint for the line.

But the day belonged to Fyffe, who had already taken a string of good results this season.

Until today he had failed to bag a win and took his last victory almost a year ago to the day when he triumphed at the Mid Ulster Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old was 3rd at the Davis Cup in recent weeks, runner-up at the Ciclisport GP, the McCann Cup and on the final stage of the Tour of the North.

He told us in a recent interview he had trained hard all winter and was hoping to take some wins and break into the U23 Irish team.
