Andy Maguire wins Wexford Road Race Champs
On the same day his team mate won the Meath title, Andy Maguire has won the Wexford Road Race Championships.
Like Jack Caldwell in Meath, Gerard-DHL’s Maguire took a solo win in Camross having shaken off a breakaway.
In the Wexford title race the winning escape would get clear early; four men taking flight.
Maguire was in that move along with some very experienced campaigners over three 15km laps of the Adamstown Quarry hills circuit.
Anthony Doyle (Strata 3-VeloRevoltion) was with him as were Declan Kinch (Slipstream) and Richard Barry (St Finbarr’s).
They worked together and continued to build a lead that proved the winning of the race, with nobody else getting across.
Maguire didn’t want to wait for a sprint and after the final incline on the third lap he attacked and got clear.
He soloed in to take a clear win, with Doyle taking silver and Kinch bronze.
While the fourth man in the escape, Barry, finished outside the top three he had the consolation off taking the A2 title.
Martin Peters (Gorey CC) won the A3 Wexford title while Slaney CC’s Brian Maher is the new A4 county champion.
David Walsh took the final title on offer; the Rossbury Racing man winning the Masters category.
