The race came down to a bunch sprint after the early escapes were swept up by the WorldTour teams keen to take victory in the UCI 1.1 ranked event.

And after a number of those early moves had been recaptured it was a rider that Irish cycling fans will know well who made an impressive and brave bid solo; One Pro Cycling’s Marcin Biabolocki.

The big Pole won the An Post Rás overall three years ago and has also taken three stages in the race down the years.

While his effort with 25km remaining on the local finishing circuits was a good one, he was caught with 11km remaining by a bunch clearly in no mood to let a breakaway win the day.

An Post-Chainreaction manager Kurt Bogaerts said he was pleased with the team effort; on a day when his charges were up against the best teams in the world.

"Our guys had a great day all ending up in the first group across the line and some well deserved results," he said.

"It gives us a great place to move forward from in Normandie next week"
