An Post Rás na mBan is moving away from its Co Clare base of recent years and into the Leinster area.
Having begun life in Dublin before moving to Co Kerry and on to Co Clare, An Post Rás na mBan is once again headed for pastures new.
Next year the major end of season fixture will move to a new base in Co Kilkenny, with five days of racing to take place in Leinster.
The event began in the 1980s as the ‘Ladies Two Day’ promoted by Dublin Wheelers CC in the capital before morphing into the race it is today.
Next year is the 30th anniversary of the original event, with the modern incarnation beginning as a two-day in 2006 before it was made longer and An Post came on board as the title sponsor.
There are now six stages over five days and this year’s race featured 25 teams from 13 countries.
Race director Valerie Considine said the event’s move to Kilkenny would see the coveted ‘best Irish rider’ jersey sponsored by Kilkenny County Council.
"We've had three successful years in County Clare and we're grateful to Clare County Council and everyone in county Clare for their support during our time there,” she said.
"The ethos of this event is to move it around the country and the time has come to move to a new location. We're very excited by the potential of Kilkenny city and county.
"The geography and tourism infrastructure in Kilkenny are second to none and make this a truly wonderful part of Ireland to visit for everyone associated with the race.
"We've already identified several challenging stage routes and the committee will be receiving the various options in the coming weeks.
"We have a number of exciting announcements in the coming months and it's clear that this is the beginning of another important chapter in the history of Ireland's leading women's stage race."
