Cycling Ireland has released these images of the new Irish champion's kit that all title holders must wear. The national governing body has clearly stated only one design is allowed, which means whosever wins national titles has no leeway to devise their own twist on the Irish champion's kit.
The new jersey is mostly white, with a large green panel, including a single shamrock, around the upper body. There is also green trim around the sleeve cuffs and neck. Cycling Ireland has also specified the only areas of the jersey where sponsors' logos can be included.
Any Masters title holders must wear the same design, but with the white and green reversed. Masters champion's jerseys' must be mainly green with white panel and sleeve and neck trim.
The new shorts must be black with green and white bands. Cycling Ireland said it has updated the jersey and shorts design after consultation with its clothing suppler, Spin11.
“The new designs are now registered with the UCI as the ‘registered jersey for Irish national champions' to be used after 2022 championships and these are what commissaires both in Ireland and internationally will then use for riders’ compliance,” Cycling Ireland said.
“The use of an incorrect national champion's jersey can result in both fines in Ireland and across the world. As before, all junior and senior national champions will be issued, depending on event, with either a jersey or skinsuit predominantly in white, while Masters will be presented with the predominantly green version of the clothing. Each rider may only receive one item per year.
“In
line with UCI rules there are very strict regulations on where sponsors names
can appear – these are indicated on the designs and within Cycling Ireland
technical regulations.”
