All change at Kanturk Three Day | Samuel Luke takes yellow as gaps open

Samuel Luke (Newcastle West Cycling Club) has taken the yellow jersey from the shoulders of TT stage winner, junior rider Philip O'Connor (Team Tarrants Munster) on the 117km stage 3 today.

Luke got up the road today on stage 3 - which unfolded over five laps of the Kanturk Dromtariffe Circuit - as 14 riders gained the best part of six minutes on the rest of the field; Luke gaining more than six minutes on those left behind.

The Newcastle West man had to settled for 3rd place on the stage - behind winner Yan Tsymbal (West Clare CC) and runner-up Sean O'Kane (Orwell Wheelers), both of whom finish on the same time.

However, Luke was just four seconds back in 3rd place, with a further 27 seconds elapsing before Liam Kilkenny (Galway Bay CC) took 4th place. The in-form Barry Meade of host club O'Leary Stone Kanturk took 5th, just one second after Kilkenny.

The stage result meant Luke goes in to yellow - as the holder the jersey today, O'Connor, lost nine minutes. The new race leader sits just one second ahead of Meade in the overall standings, with Ben Murphy (Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club) 3rd at three seconds.

Today's stage winner, Tsymbal is up to 4th overall, at six seconds, with Marc Flavin (Dungarvan CC) 5th at 18 seconds and today's runner-up, O'Kane, rounding out the top six overall, for now, at 29 seconds.
