Attacking riding on the fourth stage of the An Post Rás na mBan in Co Kerry today, Tuesday, failed to unsettle the sprinters, with stage victory going to Britain’s Karla Boddy in a bunch sprint at the end of the Valentia Island stage.
With all of the general classification contenders finishing in that lead pack, there were no major classification changes. Danish teenager Kamillla Vallin (Reelight-Bike Toyz) still holds the pink leader’s jersey as the race moves into the business end of the week.
The 78km run today was anything but boring, with plenty of attacking causing some groups to go clear only to be reabsorbed.
There were repeated efforts from riders like Ishbel Taromsari (Pedal Power Race Team), Orla Hendron (Orwell Wheelers Dundrum Town Centre) Amy Brice (Ireland) and Charlotte Lenting (NWVG Bike 4 Aires-Dames).

However, the roads of The Kingdom were also witness to plenty of good team work from the GC leader’s outfit, which rode attentively throughout and was in large part responsible for making it a bunch sprint, of 31 riders, when the race reached the finish at Chapeltown Village on Valentia Island.
Boddy from the High Wycombe CC team proved most powerful on the uphill finish, converting her third places on both stage 1 and 3 into victory.
She beat double stage winner Femke Van Kessel (NWVG Bike 4 Aires-Dames) into second place with another Dutch rider, Talisa Van Der Fluit (District Team NH/WTC de Amstel), rounding out the podium on the Fixx Coffeehouse sponsored stage.
The race leader was 7th in the sprint to the line and so retains her six second lead on GC over Lydia Boyle of the Ireland team going into tomorrow’s queen stage; a 95.5km slog that includes the category 1 Ballaghabeama and Ballaghasheen climbs followed by the Coomaciste category 2.
Today, Siobhan McNamara (Look Mum No Hands) retained her Queen of the Mountains jersey, just about holding at bay Laura Massey (Abergavenny RC) on the day’s two second category climbs of Coomaciste and Geokaun to hold a three point lead in that competition.
The Sneem Hotel County Rider jersey stays on the shoulders of McNamara’s team mate Louise Moriarty (Look Mum No Hands). She remains 5th on GC just 15 seconds, and having won this race twice in the past she will undoubtedly use her local knowledge tomorrow to launch an assault on Vallin’s pink jersey.
