David McCann has said he is tired but in good shape after finishing the Tour of Oman today, and now wants to target the opening time trial stage in the Tour de Langkawi next Friday.
“The legs and mind are pretty tired after the two tours (Oman and Qatar) but I'm hoping I can come good in time with the first stage TT in Langkawi; it’s something to aim for if I do manage to recover in time for it,” McCann told stickybottle after today’s closing stage in Oman.
McCann departs Oman for Langkawi tomorrow (Monday), for the ten-day race that starts next Friday with a 20.3km individual TT.
Then the Belfast man and his RTS Racing Team have a matter of days to recover before the seven-day Tour of Taiwan.
“After that I have the tour de sofa for a while to try and recover from a pretty hectic start to the season. The body does take a bit of a hammering on such a heavy race schedule, but other similar early seasons have set me up for a good year.”
McCann finished in the bunch today on the sixth and final stage in Oman; a flat circuit race won from a mass sprint by Marcel Kittel (Project 1t4i).
McCann was 85th overall after losing time on yesterday’s queen stage which finished on the top of Green Mountain. His saddle moved out of place and an old back injury flared up ruining his day.
