Irish cyclist Adam Stenson has continued his fine run of form by taking victory in Belgium today.

The Bikeworx Celbridge won a combined elite and U23 circuit race in Haasdonk this afternoon.

Stenson had a terrific weekend at the Suir Valley Three Day earlier this month, taking the climbers classification.

And he followed that up with a convincing solo win in the John Beggs Memorial last weekend. He attacked from the winning breakaway and took a solo win in what was the penultimate round of the National Road Series.

Today he again got clear in a successful escape and forged ahead of it.

He was joined by Belgian rider Jef Bertels (Thielemans-De Hauwere) and beat him in the sprint at the finish.

And just nine seconds later another Irishman Angus Fyffe (Omagh Wheelers) would take 3rd place.

Fyffe brought home a five-man group that included another Irishman; Mark O’Callaghan (Aqua Blue Academy), who would place 6th on the day.

The race was run over a circuit of approximately 5km, with Stenson and Fyffe attacking hard with five laps to go.

They rode hard and were soon joined by three Belgian riders. They combined well until the last lap when Bertels attacked solo.

Sensing the danger, Stenson jumped across to him. And at the finish the Irishman caught his rival on the hop, attacking him with around 500 metres remaining and holding him off to win.

Dermot Turlock (Lucan CRC) and Jamie Blanchfield (Panduit Carrick) would place 30th and 42nd respectively.

They both finished in what remained of the peloton, some 40 seconds behind the flying Stenson.
